Grow Your Own

KIBSD has 3 types of Grow Your Own Programs: General Education to Special Education (GETS), Para Pathway 1 (with existing degree), and Para Pathway 2 (cohort model).  

Details for what you need for each program are in the Applicant Informational Sheets. The first step is to complete the Interest Form.

 

GETS

The KIBSD GETS Program is for current District General Education teachers who want to become a Special Education teacher in the District’s Special Services Department. Teachers will work through an approved study program to obtain their Special Education credential with the State of Alaska Education Department. 

 

Para Pathway 1

The KIBSD Para Pathway 1 Program is for current District paraprofessionals who want to become a teacher in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or Special Education. These employees must already have a degree of some kind – either a Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree. Employees will work through an approved study program to obtain their Teaching Certificate with the State of Alaska Education Department. 

 

Para Pathway 2

The KIBSD Para Pathway 2 Program is for current District paraprofessionals who want to become a teacher in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or Special Education. Employees will work through an approved study program with other District employees in a cohort model to obtain their Teaching Certificate with the State of Alaska Education Department.
