Kodiak Digital Learning Program

Purpose of Program:

The Kodiak Digital Learning Program (KDLP) is designed to prioritize meaningful learning experiences for 11th and 12th graders, helping them achieve their educational goals and effectively prepare for postsecondary learning and life. Students entering the KDLP should already possess strong independent learning skills and demonstrate confidence using the district-issued iPad and the Schoology learning management system.

Eligibility for Enrollment:

Enrollment in the KDLP is open to students in grades 11 and 12, with limited enrollment opportunities available for students in grade 10.

  • Grade 9 Students:
Ninth-grade students are generally not permitted to enroll in the KDLP. However, enrollment may be considered under unique circumstances with approval from both the student’s parent/guardian and the high school administration.
  • Enrollment Limits:
The KDLP accepts a maximum of 200 student enrollments per semester. Enrollment priority is as follows:
    1. 12th-grade students (highest priority)
    2. 11th-grade students
    3. 10th-grade students (as space permits)

Enrollment is contingent upon available space and adherence to the prioritization guidelines above.

Welcome!

We would like to welcome you to this semester of independent learning in the 2025-2026 school year!

Essential Information:

  • If you have questions or need support, email the KDLP Team at: kdlp@kibsd.org
  • All missing and late work is due January 9, 2026. No exceptions.
  • To access your classes, log into the Schoology app that is located on your iPad or in the ClassLink application on your iPad.
  • Notes are required. This is one of the few instances where we have evidence of your active learning. We accept images of handwritten notes, PDFs from Notability, or Microsoft Word documents. Those are the only file forms we accept. If you use a Notes application, it is your responsibility to convert your notes to a file format that is mentioned above. No images of typed notes will be accepted. You will be asked to resubmit your notes in the appropriate form.
  • Students are expected to complete an orientation unit in their online course before they are granted access to the content.
  • Content access will begin within 48 hours of enrollment, with the Orientation Unit being the first required content.
  • Course challenges are made available with the approval of Mr. Acker. If you wish to challenge a course, the course challenge must be requested by September 9, 2025.
  • Students will need corded earbuds or headphones. Bluetooth and wireless devices are not acceptable.
  • Personal and cellular devices are not allowed in the KDLP classroom. We will collect personal laptops, smart watches, cellphones, personal tablets, and Bluetooth and wireless earbuds/headphones.
  • Announcements and valuable information can be found in Schoology and via email. We use Outlook for communication and you can email the team with questions.
  • Should we go to remote learning: there is no broadcast or Teams meeting for Independent Studies courses.
  • You are expected to log on and work in your independent studies classes for a minimum of 5 hours a week for each class. Be sure to schedule time to work on the course daily. Remote learning or not, this is the expectation.
  • Please note that we will no longer extend courses or save progress. You are welcome to retake courses that you were not successful in, but we report the grade you earn at the end of the semester and do not save grades or work on assignments for the purposes of transferring progress to other semesters.
  • If you plagiarize work, you will receive a 0 and we expect you to redo the assignment. You will receive an email and we will contact your parents. If you are caught plagiarizing a third time, the 0s for the assignments will become permanent. You will lose credit for the course and lose your privilege to take KDLP courses in the future. Cite your sources and demonstrate good academic integrity. Please note that this includes AI-generated content without the proper documentation.
  • The only appropriate use of AI generated content at the KDLP is: with teacher permission, a citation of usage such as “this item was created in collaboration with ___”, and a transcript of the conversation with the generative AI tool is provided. Anything else is considered plagiarism.
  • This semester, you get the grade you earn. This means that if you do not complete the course requirements by the specified time, you will earn a failing grade that will go on your transcript. You will be able to attempt to complete the course again in the next semester for a $100.00 course service fee.
Enjoy this journey of independent learning!
