This weekend, the KHS Shakesbears will present their first production of the season: Animal Farm by George Orwell.

This haunting, yet fascinating play will be brought to life by 20 of Kodiak’s best young talent, on the stage and behind the scenes this weekend.

In case you need a reminder, since the last time you read Animal Farm was in junior high, Animal Farm is about a group of farm animals who revolt against the tyrannical reign of their human master, Mr. Jones. They attempt to create their own society, an ideal place where all animals are equal and vote in a burgeoning democracy. But the allure of power leads the animals down a dark path.

Animal Farm is a relatively serious play, with some complex political themes, so while this may not be a play “for the whole family”, it is likely appropriate for those 10 years and older.

You don’t want to miss this show that will make you think and reflect on, as Benjamin the donkey says, “the more things change, the more they stay the same.” Run-time is about 90 minutes.

The play is directed by Jared Griffin, and this is his ninth production with the KHS Shakesbears. The Shakesbears are the 5-time reigning Alaska state champions in Drama, and currently ranked #1 in the state.

Actors and crew are available for interviews during rehearsals the week of September 23: Monday through Thursday, from 3:30-5:30.

Thanks, and hope to see you there!
