Board of Education President Mike Litzow is pleased to announce the appointment of Damon Hargraves as the Superintendent of the Kodiak Island Borough School District (KIBSD).
Damon Hargraves brings more than 20 years of experience in education and district leadership to his role as Superintendent.
Raised in Ketchikan, Alaska, Hargraves began his education career as a teacher in the Bering Strait School District. His early experience working in rural Alaska schools helped shape his commitment to supporting students, educators, and communities throughout the state.
Hargraves has served KIBSD since 2011, contributing to the district in a variety of leadership roles, including Principal of Peterson Elementary, Director of Federal Programs, Director of Technology, Middle School Assistant Principal, Online Learning Department Administrator, and, most recently, as the Assistant Superintendent. His extensive experience across multiple areas of school and district operations provides a strong foundation for leading KIBSD and supporting the district’s continued commitment to student success.
“The board is very pleased to have Damon taking on this role. We’re confident that his extensive leadership experience in KIBSD and his deep commitment to the Kodiak community make him the right person to lead our district,” said Mike Litzow.
Hargraves holds a Master of Education in Leadership from the University of Alaska Anchorage, a Master of Instructional Technology from Drury University, and is currently a doctoral candidate at Evangel University.
The KIBSD Board of Education welcomes the opportunity to work with Hargraves as he leads efforts to support student success, empower staff, and strengthen schools throughout the district.
