Message from Superintendent Dr. LeDoux

  • July 14, 2020

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope you all have been able to get out and take advantage of the recent beautiful weather. At KIBSD, we have been busy thinking about what school will be like in the fall, and we know that you have been thinking about the same: Will our schools open in the fall? What will school look like? Unfortunately, we can’t answer those questions due to the variables that change almost daily. The answers are complicated, but our top priorities are the health and safety of our students and staff, and delivering a high-quality educational program. We want to have our kids back amongst their teachers and friends. We are working closely with state and local health officials to ensure that any plan we put into place is as safe as possible.

KIBSD currently has three proposed scenarios for this fall, which are dependent upon the risk level of COVID-19 in our community. These scenarios are explained in the documents included with this letter. They include options for in-person, a combination of online and in-person learning, and only online schooling. We understand that planning for the unknown is stressful for everyone. The good news is, we learned a tremendous amount about distance learning from the end of last year. Teams have been preparing more effective and efficient teaching methods for online school. Other teams have been working on curriculum, safety and logistics, instruction, social and emotional development, staff development and budgeting. We have also been examining what other school districts are doing around the state and around the country. We intend to be fully prepared for any situation we might encounter this fall.

The District would also like to continue hearing from you so that we can address specific concerns about the upcoming year. We will plan to have an open forum meeting on Facebook Live and Blue Jeans on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 6:30 pm. In addition to the forum, we will also be sending you a survey to get more input about how comfortable you are sending your children back to school.

The more we work together, the better the experience will be for all of us. We know that this situation is far from ideal, but we are confident that we can navigate it together.

    Sincerely,

    Larry LeDoux
    Superintendent
