A VISIT TO CHINIAK BAY ELDER HOUSE

In October, Mrs. Lhotka's and Ms. Nobby's 7th and 8th-grade classes visited the Chiniak Bay Elder House. Students interacted with Elders and helped to beautify the grounds around the facility, as part of building intergenerational relationships and exploring careers in the medical field. Students reflected on their experience as follows: "This field trip affects my interpersonal intelligence by making me understand why elders live there and how good they are getting treated in there." "We also interacted with Elders by introducing ourselves, helping them with mobility, greeting them, and being respectful." "Working at the Elder House would probably be hard. There are several jobs there including food service, registered nurses, custodians, and security."

TIPS FOR SUCCESS AT KMS

#1 ensure your child gets a good night's sleep. Charge all electronics outside of their bedroom.

#2 Send them to school each day with a fully charged iPad.

#3 Call the office if you need to contact your child during the day. We will get a message to them as soon as possible. Student phones are expected to be off, kept in their lockers, and only used before school or ager the last bell.

#4 Have a daily conversation with your child. Check PowerSchool weekly for grades and missing assignments together.

THANK YOU!

Thank you, volunteers, staff and students for making the Fall Scholastic Book Fair a success!
