KHS talent heads to state solo, ensemble music festival

Sixteen students from the Kodiak High School Music Department are headed to the ASAA/First National Bank Alaska 2017 State Solo and Ensemble Music Festival this weekend, May 12-13.
 
These students earned “Superior” ratings during the recent regional solo and ensemble contest and include:

  • Timothy Bohac
  • Bradly Cobban
  • Mariah Cumplido
  • Sandra Dorado
  • Jamie Fabricante
  • Jessica Graves
  • Kaori Kageyama
  • Kathleen McKinney
  • Jessica Mendez
  • Laurene Monzon
  • ChellaRae Nugent
  • Antonia Pristas
  • Tanner Purdy
  • Grace Westling

They will travel to the University of Alaska Anchorage to compete.  The tentative competition schedule for Friday includes: Baritone/Euphonium Cello, Clarinet, Double Reed, Flute, French Horn, Guitar, High String, Music Theatre Vocal Solo, Percussion Solo, Percussion Ensemble, Piano, Saxophone, String Bass, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba, Vocal Small Ensemble (2-4), Vocal Large Ensemble (5-16) and Vocal Solo.

 
Saturday’s tentative schedule includes: Brass Ensemble, Harp. High String, Jazz Instrumental Solo, Jazz Instrumental Ensemble, Jazz Vocal Solo, Jazz Vocal Ensemble, Musical Theatre Vocal Ensemble, Musical Theatre Vocal Solo, Show Choir, String EnsembleVocal Small ensemble (2-4), Vocal Large Ensemble (5-16), Vocal Solo, Woodwind Ensemble, World Instrument Ensemble and World Instrument Solo.
 
Command Performance events will be given in the East Anchorage High School auditorium on Friday, May 12, at 6:30 PM, and on Saturday, May 13, at 5:30 PM.  Auditions for the Command Performances will be held throughout each day of the festival in the UAA Fine Arts building on the UAA campus.
