AKTEACH Robotics teams ‘inspires’ at state LEGO tournament
Saturday, January 14, 2017, was a very important day for Alaska First Lego League (FLL) Robotics. The state tournament, the Alaska Robot Rendezvous, was held at Goldenview Middle School in Anchorage. Last month, Kodiak’s AKTEACH RoboBears earned a spot in this tournament when they won the Judge’s Award for Outstanding Performance at the Regional Qualifier Tournament, competing against 14 other schools. As a first-year team with first year coaches, the team was thrilled to qualify. This put them on the same field as teams who had been competing for several years. A total of 58 teams from around the state qualified for state tournament, and of those, only 17 would be awarded a trophy. The hard work and dedication of the RoboBears, coached by Mike Munson and Jeremy Stewart, really paid off, as they were awarded a trophy for the Judges Award for Inspiration – very rare for a first-year team! Way to go RoboBears!
