Saturday, December 2, 2017, was a big day for some Kodiak Robotics Competitors. Students from North Star and AKTEACH Home School competed in a First Lego League Robotics Virtual Tournament at Kodiak Middle School. Volunteers Melissa Alexander, Molly MacIntosh, and Kristie Wall were their hardworking coaches.
Eleven teams from around the state of Alaska were judged in Core Values (including such things as “Gracious Professionalism,” “We are a Team,” “We honor the spirit of friendly competition,” and “We have fun!”), Robot Design (programming and design of the robot), Project (presentation of research that solves a problem related to this year’s theme “Hydrodynamics”), and Robot Game (design and program a Lego robot to complete missions on the game table).
Kodiak’s AKTEACH BrickBots tied for 3rd in the Robot Game, with a high score of 70 points.
Kodiak’s Brick Bosses were awarded 1st place in the category of Robot Design.
The championship went to a team from Kaktovik.
It is pretty unusual for first-year teams to do so well in a regional competition. Congratulations to both of Kodiak’s teams! We are very proud of your hard work and great attitudes!
