Notice of New Positive COVID-19 Cases at Main and Peterson Elementary Schools

KIBSD Administration has been notified that an individual at Main Elementary and an individual at Peterson Elementary have tested positive for COVID-19. As per district protocols, all students or staff who have been in close contact with a positive case will be notified of a 14-day quarantine.

KIBSD is continuing to work together to maintain the health and safety of our students and staff. As per our district COVID response plan, we are currently employing the following steps:

  • All students and staff who are considered a close contact will remain at home for a 14-day quarantine period. We will be working with families to implement virtual learning during this time. Following the 14-day period, staff and students will return to school.
  • Main Elementary and Peterson Elementary will be closed to all students and staff for a period of 24 hours to undergo deep cleaning. Both schools will reopen on Friday, November 20, 2020.
  • We are working closely with Kodiak Public Health Nurse Bonny Weed, who is engaged in every facet of our response plan.
  • All other school sites will continue to operate per usual unless notified otherwise.

We continue to encourage all parents take their student’s temperature and monitor students closely for any sign of potential illness.

Students and staff should remain at home if they have any symptoms of COVID-19 including: fever (defined as temperature over 100.4F), new or persistent cough, new trouble breathing or shortness of breath, chills, night sweats, sore throat, body aches, muscle aches, joint pain, headache, loss of taste or smell, fatigue, confusion, and/or stomach issues (diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain).
