Letter from Superintendent LeDoux regarding positive COVD-19 case and temporary school closure.
September 30, 2020
Dear Staff and Families of the Kodiak Island Borough School District,
This afternoon, KIBSD Administration was notified that a person at Peterson Elementary has tested positive for COVID-19. As per district protocols, all students or staff who have been in close contact with a positive case will be notified of a 14-day quarantine.
KIBSD is continuing to work together to maintain the health and safety of our students and staff. We are currently employing the following steps as per our COVID response plan:
All students and staff who are considered a close contact will remain at home for a 14-day quarantine period. We will be working with families to implement virtual learning during this time. Following the 14-day period, staff and students will return to school.
Peterson Elementary School will be closed to all students and staff for a period of 24 hours to undergo deep cleaning. The school will reopen on Friday, October 2, 2020.
Breakfast and lunch for Peterson families will be provided from a van in the parking lot from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 1, 2020.
We continue to encourage all parents take their student’s temperature and monitor students closely for any sign of potential illness.
Students and staff should remain at home if they have any symptoms of COVID-19 including: fever (defined as temperature over 100.4°F), new or persistent cough, new trouble breathing or shortness of breath, chills, night sweats, sore throat, body aches, muscle aches, joint pain, headache, loss of taste or smell, fatigue, confusion, and/or stomach issues (diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain).
