Puffin News December 19, 2019

From the Principal

"Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is time for home. - Edith Sitwell

We wish you well in your homes during our Winter Break, and safe travels to our Puffins who are away! December has been filled with many fun events. We had our annual Santa Shop where the students have the opportunity to shop for their families from local vendors in our very own library. We had the 2nd grade fundraiser, Cookies with Santa, and the photos with Santa are always a blast. We also had our Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grade Winter Concert, which was a huge hit. We love hearing our Puffins sing, and seeing them dancing and smiling! Happy, happy holidays and a joyous New Year to one and all!

Counselor’s Corner

Happy Holidays Peterson Families! As the holiday season is here, we’ve been talking about gratitude in our counseling lessons this past month and practicing gratitude breaths. We’ve also been learning about conflict resolution and different choices on Kelso’s Wheel. There are nine choices: talk it out, share and take turns, ignore it, walk away, tell them to stop, apologize, make a deal, wait and cool off and go to another game. In 3rd – 5th, we’ve reviewed all the choices and especially practiced talking it out. Words have power and we want our students to use them to solve small problems! In Kinder – 2nd grade, we’re learning how to use our BIG voice with friends. In January, we will be starting out unit on Safe Touch/ Unsafe Touch; a letter went home this week with more details. We will also be starting new groups in January. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out at or (907) 481-6400.
