Welcome Message from Principal Irons
Dear North Star Community,
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! After this incredible summer of endless sunny days, I hope your family is ready to dive into a new adventure at North Star. I know that I am eager to hear our school filled with laughter and learning once more.
North Star’s educators are a dedicated, motivated, and incredibly positive group of people who are a joy to work with every single day. As a team, we are all focused on the success of each child – as developing citizens as well as in academic areas. This year, you’ll hear a lot of discussion across the district about how to nurture and support student growth in Language Arts (reading and writing), Math, and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). It’s an exciting time for our school and our district!
One area of change for all our elementary schools this year will be the implementation of our district’s new reading and writing program from the American Reading Company (called ARC for short). This is especially exciting to me because a major focus will be something I care deeply about – engaging our kids as readers. I believe that engagement is necessary for real learning to occur, and this program strives to do just that. As a school, we are already beginning conversations about purposeful, fun, and interesting ways to make reading more meaningful to our students and their families. You will probably also see a new focus on reading at home, and I encourage you to get involved, ask questions, learn with us. Please stay tuned - this is going to be exhilarating!
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions, observations, or concerns about your child. I believe that a positive partnership between home and school is essential to the success of each student at North Star. I can hardly wait to begin the new school year.
Principal, North Star Elementary School
