KIBSD Administration, with the support and guidance of Kodiak’s medical professionals, has made the difficult decision to close all town and Chiniak School buildings to students. Remote learning will begin tomorrow and continue through January 8, 2021.
Three major reasons for this urgent response are:
Increasing positive COVID-19 cases in multiple schools
Instructional instability due to frequent opening and closing of schools
The district’s inability to provide adequate staffing through substitutes
We know that remote learning is not the preferred choice of delivery. We hope that with swift action we can help to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Kodiak, while continuing to provide a high-quality education to our students.
Beginning Friday, November 20, 2020 all town schools and Chiniak School will transition to their established remote learning schedule. All other rural schools will retain their existing programs. Teachers and administrators will be contacting families in the coming days to provide further guidance.
Unless notified otherwise, classes will resume in-person on Monday, January 11, 2021.
KIBSD would like to remind you that we are in this together. Please reach out if you are in need of support.
