KIBSD Administration has been notified that an individual at Main Elementary has tested positive for COVID-19. This individual was determined to be in the school building before the building closure on Friday, October 30, 2020.

KIBSD is continuing to work together to maintain the health and safety of our students and staff. As per our district COVID response plan, we are currently employing the following steps:

  • All students and staff who are considered a close contact will be notified by the school district.
  • Main Elementary will continue to operate remotely per the information released on October 30, 2020 by the Office of the Superintendent. The school will reopen on Friday, November 13, 2020 unless notified otherwise.
  • We are working closely with Kodiak Public Health Nurse Bonny Weed, who is engaged in every facet of our response plan.

We continue to encourage all parents take their student’s temperature and monitor students closely for any sign of potential illness.

Students and staff should remain at home if they have any symptoms of COVID-19 including: fever (defined as temperature over 100.4°F), new or persistent cough, new trouble breathing or shortness of breath, chills, night sweats, sore throat, body aches, muscle aches, joint pain, headache, loss of taste or smell, fatigue, confusion, and/or stomach issues (diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain).
