Notes from Nurse Kim

A big “Thank you!” to Bridgeview Dental Group’s hygienists Lauren and Megan for teaching our students about dental care and oral health. This dental group has graciously donated dental kits for each of our students, as well! Celebrate February’s Dental Health Month with happy, healthy smiles! 

We’re still seeing quite a bit of common viral illnesses going around (influenza, colds, etc.) so stay vigilant with respiratory precautions, hand washing, disinfecting surfaces, and not touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with your hands.

Districtwide Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Leila Fernandez! 2nd place Champion from Main!

Snow Day Make-Up February 17, 2020

To make up for the “Snow Day” after the blizzard we had, the District Inservice has been cancelled, and there will be classes

beginning at the usual time starting at 8:00 a.m.

Keep Reading Students

The 50,000 Step ReadingChallenge is going strong! When Main Elementary reaches this level Mrs. Chervenak will dress up as an Eagle for a day and then student reader names will be drawn (1 student per grade)… and they will each throw a “PIE” in Mrs. “Eagle” Chervenak’s face!!!

D.A.R.E Graduation

On Friday February 7, 2020 the annual 5th grade DARE graduation was held at the Gerald C. Wilson auditorium. Officer Shane Parker, the D.A.R.E. instructor, organized the event. 5th grade students from Main, East and North Star all participated in the ceremony. Students wrote essays sharing how the DARE instruction helped expand their decision making skills. A prize was received for 3rd place, 2nd place and 1st place for each of the 5th grade classes. An exciting new award is the D.A.R.E. student award, which celebrates the student who exemplifies the values and strong decision making choices. This award is chosen by the classmates.

Essay winners: Alyssa Culler & Arely Lopez

D.A.R.E. Student Award: Wade Briones & Jeffery Johnson
