New Open Hour Policy for Juniors and Seniors: If you are planning on having an Open Hour this year you MUST complete an Open Hour form found in the counseling office. This form MUST be signed by parent/guardian and returned no later than September 16th. If this form is not on file, you will be given a full schedule. For questions or concerns please see Mr. Hecht.

AP Comparative Government & Politics: There’s a New AP Course! Comparative Government and Politics Are you interested in politics? Current events? Curious about the protests in Hong Kong? Wondering what Brexit is? Want to understand what’s happening in the world around you today? Sign up for this new course! AP Comparative Government and Politics is an introductory college-level course in comparative government and politics. It’s open to students in grades 10-12 and the class meets during 7th period. The course examines political structures, policies, and political, economic, and social challenges of six selected countries: China, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia, and the United Kingdom. The course explores topics like power and authority, legitimacy and stability, media bias, democratization, and methods of political analysis. Come join the discussion! Girls in Engineering: Kodiak High School has scheduled a field trip for female students to go to the U.S. Coast Guard Base Air Station to participate in the Women in Engineering Tour. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematic careers are the focus. Space is limited and participants MUST have their permission slip turned in by Monday, September 16, 2019 Date of Field Trip: Thursday, September 19, 2019 from 12:30 - 3:25 PM Sign-up and pick up the permission slip in the office.

PSAT Wednesday, October 16th Registration Now Open: Attention all sophomores and juniors, the ONLY offering of the PSAT this school year will be Wednesday, October 16th at 8:30am. Students may sign up now in the counseling office. The fee for the test is $20. There may be fee waivers for eligible junior students only. There are a limited number of seats available for the test so register in the counseling office soon. Please see your grade level counselor with questions.

ASVAB Wednesday, November 13th: The first ASVAB test of the year will be given to interested juniors and seniors on Wednesday November 13th at 8:30am. The ASVAB test is used for military service entrance. The test also provides information on various career areas. Students considering military service after high school are encouraged to take this test. Sign up in the KHS counseling office.

eSports League: What do teamwork, KHS pride, AND gaming have in common? Our school! We will have an esports league this fall! Come to our interest meeting to learn more about the esports teams! The meeting will be Wednesday, Sept 18th at 3:45 in the 2nd floor break out room. Whether you’re a lifelong gamer or someone who is just new and curious, all are welcome.
