Whale Watch News October 21, 2019

From the Principal

We had our first PTA meeting last week. There are a lot of events that are being scheduled throughout the school year.

On November 2nd, we will be having our Fall Carnival. This is a long-standing tradition that I am excited to be a part of this year. We are needing volunteers for this event. For more information, check out the East Elementary PTA Facebook page.

Please let me know if you have any celebrations, needs or concerns.

Thank you,

Mrs. Hietala

From the Classroom

Kindergarten has been enjoying fall activities. They have made fun fall crafts and enjoyed a nature walk to the college. Students have been learning about the jobs of authors and illustrators, as well as characters, setting, and major events in a story. They have been listening to stories by Eric Carle and Ezra Jack Keats. In math, they are becoming experts at recognizing how many objects are in a collection (up to 10) without counting! Kindergarten also celebrated Alaska Day with several different activities.

First grade enjoyed investigating pumpkins inside and out. They identified whether their pumpkins were big or small, bumpy or smooth. They also measured and weighed their pumpkin. They explored the color of the seeds, the texture and the feeling of the inside. They also enjoyed pumpkin soup.
