    On Tuesday, the KHS Shakesbears won a $1500 grant from the Alaska Spirit of Youth and the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services as part of their competitive COVID-19 Youth Messaging Grant.

  • KIBSD Rural Schools Reading English & Alutiiq Development (READ) Project

    As part of The Alaska Comprehensive Literacy State Development Project, the KIBSD Rural Schools Reading English & Alutiiq Development (READ) Project created and distributed home Literacy Kits to children ages birth to 18 in each of our rural communities (Akhiok, Chiniak, Karluk, Larsen Bay, Old Harbor, Ouzinkie, and Port Lions).

  • KIBSD Rural Schools receives grant funding to support Reading English & Alutiiq Development (READ) Project

    The Kodiak Island Borough School District’s Reading English & Alutiiq Development (READ) Project seeks to improve English Language Arts academic performance across its five rural schools (Akhiok, Chiniak, Old Harbor, Ouzinkie, and Port Lions) serving approximately 137 Pre-K-12th grade students and 22 staff each year.

  • Kodiak High School Shakesbears Dominate the Dimond DDF Tournament

    The KHS Shakesbears Drama Team, coached by Jared Griffin, competed against over 100 students from around Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula at the Dimond DDF Tournament this weekend, and walked away with several awards in multiple events. In all, the Shakesbears won five 1st place awards, three 2nd place awards, two 3rd place awards, and three 4th place awards.

    The KIBSD School Board said goodbye to outgoing USCG Advisory Representative CDR Dan Rogers during its regular meeting on Monday, July 22nd.   • KMS student wins Alaska Municipal League's Essay Contest

    Mrs. Lhotka’s sixth-grade students recently participated in a statewide essay contest sponsored by the Alaska Municipal League. The essay question posed to students was, “If I were Mayor, I would…” and Kodiak Middle School’s very own Maria Velasco rose to the occasion and deliver the winning essay for our District. Congratulations, Maria!

  • Kodiak High School Student Government attends 2019 Spring AASG conference

    Roughly 350 Alaska student leaders traveled from far and wide to experience and gather in the “Forefront of the Last Frontier” — Bethel, Alaska the largest community on the Kuskokwim river. For three days we cultivated student government skills and communicated with other delegates from around the state.

    52 Kodiak High School students competed against 789 student musicians (from 42 Alaskan schools) at the ASAA Alaska State Solo and Ensemble Festival this past Friday and Saturday. We are proud to announce that we had two “1st place winners” (Command Performance #1) who were featured in the Command Performance.

  • Kodiak Middle School students dominate statewide eCYBERMISSION STEM Competition

    The U.S. Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) has announced 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams from Kodiak Middle School as 1st place state winners in the 17th annual eCYBERMISSION competition – one of several science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) initiatives sponsored by the U.S. Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP).
