Extreme weather conditions present a different set of challenges.\u00a0 Almost always, the issue of transportation is important.\u00a0 Most prevalent in Kodiak will be ice, wind and or snowfall situations.\u00a0 The superintendent or designee will check with KIBSD Bus Provider, First Student Inc., KPD and the State Troopers to assess road conditions early in the morning.<\/p>\n
In the event of a school closure or delay, the superintendent or designee will notify principals as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
Teachers, staff, and parents should monitor local radio, KIBSD\u2019s Facebook page and website to find out if school has been closed or delayed in any way.\u00a0 KIBSD will also notify teachers, staff, and parents via an automated call. In the event of a closure, Central Services will remain open to provide assistance.<\/p>\n
As always, a parent\u2019s decision regarding the welfare of his\/her child is important.\u00a0 If at any time the parent\/guardian feels it is in the child\u2019s best interest to remain home in adverse weather situations, the absence will be recorded as excused.<\/p>\n
The district will make every effort to make the facilities available and receive children arriving at school, temporarily until a parent can pick them up.\u00a0 We cannot risk having a student arrive at a closed building during inclement weather and not have the door open.<\/p>\n
