Letter for Rising 8th Grade families regarding CTE courses

May 23, 2023 | Kodiak Middle School

Dear Parent/Guardian:

KMS counselors spoke with students today regarding course selection and opportunities for next year. Students were given a course selection sheet that should be coming home today to get signed. As we navigate into a new school year, we have some innovative and exciting opportunities for 8th grade students at KMS. Please look over the course selection sheet and sign and return to KMS by Wednesday, May 24th for counselors to start working through scheduling for next year.

As we move into the 2023-2024 school year, we were able to figure out ways to expand course offerings for rising 8th graders. Next year, 8th grade students will have an opportunity to access Kodiak High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses. This has been done in close collaboration with Kodiak High School and the new Director of CTE for next year, Diane Maples.

The CTE courses will only be offered during 7th period to limit disruptions to the KMS academic school day. Students taking these CTE courses will be escorted to and from KHS each day. The CTE courses will only contain 8th grade students and will not be mixed with high school students.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact KMS admin or counselors. We hope you and your student feel as excited as we do about these new opportunities.

Sincerely,

Rena Rankin
Assistant Principal, Kodiak Middle School
