The Life Skills Transition Program is specifically designed to support the transition of students with significant special education needs from High School to the adult world.\u00a0 Our focus is employment, daily living, health and leisure activities, as well as connection to outside agencies and supports for students ages 18-22.<\/span><\/p>\n

CURRICULUM\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

S\u2019cool Store\/ Jobz Club<\/strong>\u00a0Provided through the Division of Voc Rehab, these short curriculums focus on employment skills and starting micro enterprises.<\/p>\n

Picture Your Future: Exploring Your Transition Goals <\/strong>This publication was written by Alaskans and for Transition aged youth in Alaska.\u00a0 It includes lessons on the following topics: exploring careers and work, training and education after high school, independent living and support, communication and relationships, community experiences and fun.<\/p>\n

My Full Life <\/strong>A primarily web based, comprehensive system of person-centered learning focused on life after high school.\u00a0 It includes lessons for over 100 topics on things such as kitchen safety, interview skills, healthy eating, housekeeping, transportation, etc.<\/p>\n

Transitions Passport <\/strong>Created by Unique Learning Systems, this binder provides a paper pencil based system for students to organize their transition experience including details about job exploration, emergency contacts, resume building, likes and dislikes, etc.<\/p>\n

PROJECT BASED LEARNING<\/strong><\/p>\n

Snack Shop <\/strong>Students learn all aspects of working in a fast paced, food establishment, from ordering\/purchasing to customer service and money handling. Since the Snack Shop produces items for sale, students also learn about safe food handling and storage, PPE and kitchen safety.<\/p>\n

Thread Bear <\/strong>An introduction to the world of retail sales, Thread Bear resale shop provides students with the opportunity to learn about clothing care, pricing, customer services and making items visually appealing.<\/p>\n

Young Sprouts <\/strong>Hydroponics are the farms of the future, so why not start learning about them now. Our students learn about seed germination, the need for light, fertilizer, and proper ph levels, appropriate growing mediums and mass production of leafy greens (for use with in our school).<\/p>\n

ON THE JOB TRAINING<\/strong><\/p>\n

KIBSD works in partnership with DVR\u2019s Pre-employment program to offer students paid real life work experience during their school day.\u00a0 These positions are flexible and can be scheduled around required classes.\u00a0 Job experience sites can be community-based or located within any of the school district buildings.\u00a0 Students are expected to follow the same guidelines as a regular employee but have KHS staff supervising and training as needed.\u00a0\u00a0 If a student wants a community based work site, they are encouraged to make the connection with the employer on their own, complete a job application and interview.<\/p>\n
