Title I is a federal program that provides supplemental funds to schools to help support academic learning. Title I eligibility is determined by the percent of students that qualify for free\/reduced lunch. Title I funds are used for educational services for students most in need of support, parental involvement opportunities and professional development.\u00a0 Title I funds are available for teachers, materials, and support services for schools that qualify under ESSA guidelines.\u00a0 The focus of the Title I program is on helping all students meet the same high standards expected of all children.<\/p>\n

Board of Education Policy on Parental Involvement - BP 6020<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n

The School Board recognizes that parents\/guardians are their children's first and most influential teachers and that continued parental involvement in the education of children contributes greatly to student achievement and conduct. Parents\/guardians can directly affect academic success by reinforcing their children's motivation and commitment to education. The District shall include parent involvement strategies as a component of instructional planning.<\/p>\n

Teachers and parents\/guardians can better understand and meet student needs if they work together. All of our schools have a duty to communicate frequently with the home and to help parents\/guardians develop skills and family management techniques which support classroom learning. Administrators and teachers should keep parents\/guardians well informed about school expectations and tell them when and how they can assist their children in support of classroom learning activities. The Board encourages staff training in effective communication with the home.<\/p>\n

The Board encourages parents\/guardians to serve as volunteers in the schools and to attend student performances and school meetings.<\/p>\n

Parental Involvement at East Elementary School<\/strong><\/p>\n

Parent Teachers Association
<\/strong>The East Elementary PTA is an active group of parents and teachers who work very hard to enhance the quality of our educational program. Their efforts have created numerous fun activities for children and have helped further the academic\/social growth of every child in our school. Activities that the PTA have been involved with include: Talent Show, Book Fairs, Family Activity Nights, Book Give-a-Ways, New Library Books, School Improvements, Parent Training, Landscaping, Visiting Authors and Whale Fest. If you want to be around those who love to bring smiles to the faces of children, please join this fun group.<\/p>\n

We are always looking for ways to make it easy for parents to become involved in their child\u2019s educational program. Recent education studies, including YEARS OF PROMISE: A COMPREHENSIVE LEARNING STRATEGY FOR AMERICA'S CHILDREN, which was released by the Carnegie Corporation, reveal that parental involvement can make the difference in a child's education. It's easy to get involved as a parent at East! There are jobs, projects and many new innovative ideas waiting for someone\u2019s special talent or time. Those who cross the initial barrier and begin to spend time usually return ... as they quickly find out how fun, rewarding and exciting it is to learn with children. Here are a few activities that will provide an opportunity to \u201cMake a Difference\" in the quality of your child\u2019s educational experience.<\/p>\n

  • Show your interest in your child\u2019s schoolwork. Read with your child every day.<\/li>\n
  • Help out in your child\u2019s classroom. Feel free to tell the teacher what types of classroom work you\u2019re comfortable doing.<\/li>\n
  • Stop by during lunchtime to eat with your child. (Adult lunches are $3.75. Please call by 10:00 am to order one.)<\/li>\n
  • Come and play at recess time.<\/li>\n
  • Volunteer as a guest presenter if you have special skills or interests to share.<\/li>\n
  • Help out in the computer lab, before or after school.<\/li>\n
  • Assist with Family Activity Nights<\/li>\n
  • Work in the Office or Library<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
