Message from Superintendent Dr. LeDoux

May 8, 2022

Dear KIBSD Community,

Today, we are holding our student Sawyer and his family close in our thoughts and hearts. Hundreds of members of the community rallied this weekend to join the search part in hopes of bringing him home. Hundreds of others supported by sharing information and updates, sending supplies, and volunteering time, space, and resources. In countless ways, Kodiak showed that every child matters and that no one is ever alone in times of need. This show of support is what sets our community apart from others, and it is what gives us hope even amid the uncertainty, worry, and fatigue.

While the search continues, our KIBSD staff is committed to supporting students however possible. We know that it helps students feel safe and secure when they have familiar routines, consistent people, and predictable schedules, and school can play an important part in this sense of normalcy. Being with their classmates and teachers can be reassuring to students amid troubling times. Simultaneously, we will be on the lookout for students who may be struggling with big questions and feelings, and our counselors are prepared to help. If you think that your student may need to talk to a school counselor, please let us know.

Meanwhile, please continue to be on the lookout, share any information, and help with the search efforts in any way you can. We all hope and pray that Sawyer is found safe and reunited with his parents. I am proud to be part of a community and district where every child matters and where all join to support one another.

Larry LeDoux
