Kodiak, Alaska: The Kodiak Island Borough School District Board of Education is pleased to announce that they have selected three individuals as finalists in the search for a new Superintendent.
The Board elected to conduct a nationwide search and contracted with the Association of Alaska School Boards to facilitate the process. The Board reviewed and compared applicants and has chosen the following candidates as finalists for on-site interviews scheduled for February 14 – 15, 2022.
The finalists are:
- Andrew (Hannibal) Anderson – Mr. Anderson recently served as the Superintendent of the Lower Yukon School District (2018-2020) and the Assistant Superintendent and Director of Human Resources prior to that. He has served as Principal or Vice-Principal for three village schools in the Bering Strait School District and one year as the Principal of Nome Beltz Jr/Sr High School. Mr. Anderson was the Superintendent of Schools in Livingston, Montana for eight years (2003-2011) before returning to Alaska. Hannibal holds a Superintendent credential in Alaska and Montana, a M. Ed. in Secondary School Administration and a B.A, History from Harvard University.
- Cynthia Mika – Currently Assistant Superintendent of Instruction for Little Elm ISD in Little Elm, Texas. She has worked in administration for Little Elm ISD for the past 15 years and prior to that, taught elementary and middle school for five years. She holds a Masters of Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Tyler and a Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Dallas Baptist University. She holds a Texas Superintendent credential.
- Debbie Treece – A long-time Alaska resident Ms. Treece has worked 27 years in the Chugach School District, serving first as a multi-age elementary teacher, preschool teacher, housing facilitator, Teacher Incentive Manager, Knowledge, Information and Data Coordinator, Special Education Director. She has served since 2016 as the Executive Director of Student Services. Deborah has her Educational and Superintendent Certificate from the University of Alaska, Anchorage. She has her Masters of Education, Educational Leadership, and a Masters in Special Education.
The finalists have been invited to Kodiak for an on-site interview and community tour/forum on Monday and Tuesday, February 14-15, 2022. During their time in Kodiak, the Board plans to have the candidates tour the community and visit the schools and attend a community “candidate forum” on the evening of Monday, February 14th.
The Board intends to announce its choice of a new superintendent following final deliberations on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. The new superintendent is expected to start on or before July 1, 2022.
