Important KIBSD School Update

Jan 17, 2022

Dear Families,

Thank you for your continued flexibility these last couple of weeks as our community navigates through this current COVID surge.

We had every intention to reopen all schools tomorrow, hoping that a short-term closure would allow for staff and students to return and enable us to reopen. Unfortunately, due to a lack of staff in every department we are still not able to open district wide as planned.

Staff shortages are affecting every department: teachers, staff, maintenance, custodial, food service, nurses, and substitutes.  There are not enough bus drivers to provide transportation. In the absence of adequate staffing to open district wide we determined that it was best to consolidate resources and open the portions of the district where we are able.

Therefore,

  • Elementary will remain on remote learning through Friday January 21, 2022.
  • Secondary (KMS & KHS) will re-open tomorrow for in person learning as planned.

Families may pick up their elementary student’s meals from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at their student’s school.

Please know that we do not make this decision lightly. We realize the impact these decisions have on families in our community. We attempted a number of alternative scenarios in efforts to avoid a continued closure, but several variables made it impossible.

Thank you for the support you are giving your students every day as we continue to weather each storm that COVID brings our way.

Sincerely,

Larry LeDoux
Superintendent
