Since returning from break, KIBSD Administration has been notified that nine individuals at North Star Elementary, 11 individuals at Peterson Elementary, 10 individuals at East Elementary, six individuals at Main Elementary, 15 individuals at Kodiak Middle School, 45 individuals at Kodiak High School, two individuals at the Central Office Preschool, one individual at Port Lions School, and four individuals at District-wide Services have tested positive for COVID-19. As per district procedures, all students or staff who have been in close contact with a positive case will be notified of their options, as outlined in the KIBSD Close Contact Exposure to COVID-19 protocols released on November 16, 2021.
KIBSD is continuing to work together to maintain the health and safety of our students and staff. In accordance with our district COVID response plan, we are currently employing the following steps:
- All students and staff who are considered a close contact will be notified by the school district. Some cases have been identified while the individual was not in the building during their contagious period, and do not require contact tracing nor additional sanitization of the school.
- Kodiak High School will remain in remote learning until Monday, January 10, 2022.
We continue to encourage all parents to take their student’s temperature and monitor them closely for any sign of potential illness.
Students and staff should remain at home if they have any symptoms of COVID-19 including: fever (defined as temperature over 100.4°F), new or persistent cough, new trouble breathing or shortness of breath, chills, night sweats, sore throat, body aches, muscle aches, joint pain, headache, loss of taste or smell, runny nose, congestion, fatigue, confusion, and/or stomach issues (diarrhea, vomiting).
