I would like to start by thanking you for your support and understanding during these exceptional times. I appreciate the challenges with scheduling and childcare that may be associated with a calendar adjustment, and respect the opinions of those that reached out to me regarding the school calendar.
When the current calendar was developed, we were optimistic that the low contagion and high vaccination rate in our community would put the worst of COVID-19 behind us. Circumstances have now changed and we need to ensure that our staff, students and families have the essential support and training they need. To offer that, we are adding two Inservice days to the start of the school year.
The following changes have been made to the 2021-2022 calendar, which is also attached for your review:
- August 30 and 31 are now District-wide Inservice days
- September 1 – Grades 6 – 12 First Day
- September 1 – Grades 1 – 5 Family Conferences
- September 2 – Grades 1 – 5 First Day
The first day of Kindergarten will remain the same and start on September 7, 2021.
With over fifty new certified staff and classified employees entering the District this school year, it is important to have time to focus on a seamless transition to remote learning. This preparation is not a plan to move to remote instruction, it is designed to ensure our staff and families are ready if it becomes necessary.
The past year, staff and students did a great job of staying safe and healthy, which allowed us to keep closures to a minimum. We remain hopeful that this year will be in-person with few or no interruptions. Again, we thank you for being a part of the KIBSD family and we look forward to a wonderful year with each and every student.
