KODIAK, ALASKA, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 6, 2021

The Kodiak Emergency Operations Center has received new COVID-19 case information for the Kodiak Island Borough.

Kodiak is experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19.

Thirty-four (34) new cases have been reported for the Kodiak Island Borough.

  • Two (2) cases were tested on 8/3/21
    • Both cases have unknown transmission until contact tracing is complete
  • Twenty-three (23) cases were tested on 8/4/21
    • Two (2) cases are travel-related
    • Thirteen (13) cases are close contacts of previously reported cases
    • Two (2) cases are considered community transmission
    • Six (6) cases have unknown transmission until contact tracing is complete
  • Nine (9) cases were tested on 8/5/21
    • Two (2) cases are travel-related
    • Four (4) cases are close contracts of previously reported cases
    • Three (3) cases have unknown transmission until contact tracing is complete

One hundred and five (105) cases are currently classified as active locally; the total case count associated with the Kodiak Island Borough is now one thousand, three hundred and fourteen (1314). There are three active cases currently hospitalized in Kodiak.

Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center is moving to ORANGE risk level at this time. All services remain open however visitor restrictions are in place. Masks are required. Patients are asked to arrive close to appointment time to help limit the number of people in the waiting room. If a patient has symptoms of COVID-19 or has been identified as a close contact then please call before the scheduled appointment.
