Kodiak Area Emergency Services Organization

KODIAK, ALASKA, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 5, 2021

This morning, members of the Kodiak Emergency Services Council met to assess the community COVID-19 risk level. With the information available and distributed through recent press releases, the determination has been made to officially raise the community risk level from Green to Yellow Status. Masks are highly recommended, regardless of vaccination status. At this time, there are no indoor capacity restrictions for local businesses.

As a community, we must all play an important role in controlling the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The Emergency Operations Center is asking local businesses to encourage wearing of masks or face coverings by both employees and customers within their business establishments, and to continue the mitigation plans that have been established.

The US Coast Guard and some local businesses are already requiring masks to enter their facilities. Schools will be requiring masks if able to open with in-person learning this fall. Please be respectful of their rules.

COVID-19 testing and vaccines remain readily available in our community. Please obtain a test if you are feeling ill or have been near someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Consider obtaining the vaccine for yourself and your family if you have not already been vaccinated. Vaccines are proven effective to reduce the severity of illness associated with contracting the virus.

If you have questions, please leave a message at 907-486-8970 for your call to be returned.

Mask up, stand back, and wash your hands.
