KODIAK, ALASKA, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  July 23, 2021

The Kodiak Emergency Operations Center has received new COVID-19 case information for the Kodiak Island Borough.

The COVID-19 virus is highly contagious, and we are experiencing an outbreak of the virus in our community.  While case count per 100,000 indicates that the Kodiak Island Borough is in the red “high risk” zone per the State of Alaska, the current impact to our local health care and hospital systems is low, and our ability to provide emergency response remains in good status.  Please continue to take appropriate precautions to keep yourself and our community healthy. 

If you are sick or believe you have may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus, please stay home and away from others.

The Kodiak Public Health office has confirmed the following information regarding recent cases in Kodiak:

  • One (1) case was tested on 7/11/21
    • This case is considered community transmission
  • Two (2) cases were tested on 7/13/21
    • One (1) case is a non-resident travel-related case
    • One (1) case is considered community transmission
  • Four (4) cases were tested on 7/14/21
    • One (1) case is a close contact of another positive case
    • Three (3) cases are considered community transmission
  • Three (3) cases were tested on 7/15/21
    • One (1) case is a close contact of another positive case
    • One (1) case is travel-related
    • One (1) case is considered community transmission
  • Four (4) cases were tested on 7/16/21
    • All four (4) cases are considered community transmission
  • One (1) case was tested on 7/17/21
    • This case is a close contact of another positive case
  • Nine (9) cases were tested on 7/19/21
    • Three (3) cases are travel-related
    • Three (3) cases are close contacts of other positive cases
    • Three (3) cases are considered community transmission
  • Three (3) cases were tested on 7/20/21
    • Two (2) cases are close contacts of other positive cases
    • One (1) case is considered community transmission
  • Fourteen (14) cases were tested on 7/21/21
    • Two (2) cases are travel-related
    • Seven (7) cases are close contacts of other positive cases
    • Five (5) cases are considered community transmission
  • Two (2) cases were tested on 7/22/21
    • One (1) case is a close contact of another positive case
    • One (1) case is considered community transmission
  • Two (2) cases were tested on 7/23/21
    • One (1) case is a close contact of another positive case
    • One (1) case is considered community transmission

This brings the current case count associated with the Kodiak Island Borough to one thousand, one hundred and eighty-four (1184); forty-four (44) cases are classified as active locally.

To date, there have been a total of fifty (50) local hospitalizations and five (5) deaths associated with COVID-19.  There is one (1) active case currently hospitalized in Kodiak.
