Second Annual Kodiak All-Comers Track and Field Challenge this Saturday, April 29.
This survey will be administered to students in grades 3 – 12 at all district schools and to certified and support staff during the week(s) of February 20 through March 3.
Kindergarteners in Melissa Griffin’s East Elementary classroom have left their mark around Kodiak Island — literally. Recently, Griffin’s students participated in the Kodiak Island Rocks campaign “to decorate rocks and hide them in various locations to brighten someone's day.”
This week, scientists and those interested in scientific work being done on and in the waters around Kodiak Island will gather at the Kodiak Area Marine Science Symposium, or KAMSS. Students throughout the Kodiak Island Borough School District will have a front row seat thanks to AKTEACH.
The Munartet Project will hold its first arts and culture symposium this Saturday, April 8. Activities will be held at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium from 9AM-5PM. Dubbed “a day to celebrate, learn and explore Kodiak's arts and culture,” the symposium has a full schedule of events for the entire family, even little ones ages 4 and up.
Beginning Tuesday, March 28, Kodiak Island Borough School District students in grades 3-10 will take the state of Alaska’s new summative assessment — the Performance Evaluation for Alaska’s Schools, or PEAKS.
Eighteen students from Kodiak Island Borough School District town and rural schools competed Feb. 21 for the KIBSD District-wide Spelling Bee crown. East Elementary fifth-grader Ocean Rowe came out on top, but it was the battle for the runner-up spot where the drama really unfolded.
Acknowledging that each individual is unique, East Elementary is committed to providing a respectful, safe, and caring school environment in which life-long learning and academic excellence are fostered. Achievement of this goal is met by providing students opportunities that promote the development of responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness and citizenship.
