  • East Elementary Kindergarteners ROCK!

    Kindergarteners in Melissa Griffin’s East Elementary classroom have left their mark around Kodiak Island — literally. Recently, Griffin’s students participated in the Kodiak Island Rocks campaign “to decorate rocks and hide them in various locations to brighten someone's day.”

  • AKTEACH: KIBSD’s link to the Kodiak Area Marine Science Symposium

    This week, scientists and those interested in scientific work being done on and in the waters around Kodiak Island will gather at the Kodiak Area Marine Science Symposium, or KAMSS. Students throughout the Kodiak Island Borough School District will have a front row seat thanks to AKTEACH.

  • Munartet arts, culture symposium set for April 8

    The Munartet Project will hold its first arts and culture symposium this Saturday, April 8. Activities will be held at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium from 9AM-5PM. Dubbed “a day to celebrate, learn and explore Kodiak's arts and culture,” the symposium has a full schedule of events for the entire family, even little ones ages 4 and up.

  • KIBSD students to take new state assessment beginning March 28

    Beginning Tuesday, March 28, Kodiak Island Borough School District students in grades 3-10 will take the state of Alaska’s new summative assessment — the Performance Evaluation for Alaska’s Schools, or PEAKS.

  • Ocean Rowe wins KIBSD district-wide spelling bee

    Eighteen students from Kodiak Island Borough School District town and rural schools competed Feb. 21 for the KIBSD District-wide Spelling Bee crown. East Elementary fifth-grader Ocean Rowe came out on top, but it was the battle for the runner-up spot where the drama really unfolded.
