Welcome to Port Lions School, home of the Kings!
The village of Port Lions is located on Kodiak Island, approximately 24 nautical miles from the city of Kodiak and is accessible only by air or water. Port Lions was founded in December, 1964, as part of the relocation of Afognak Village after the 1964 earthquake and tsunami. Port Lions has a second-class city designation governed by a mayor.
Our school serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. Our community values attendance as an important part of education and student attend school an average of 90% of the time. School staff recognize student achievement in this area by providing monthly rewards for perfect attendance.
Port Lions School has an active extra-curricular program including cross country, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, Little Dribblers, Geography Bee, Spelling Bee, and student council. Grant-funded programs such as IEA, mini-culture week and culture trip, migrant education and our ANSWER grant also enrich our curriculum. Port Lions School has a strong athletics program, fielding competitive teams in cross country, volleyball, and basketball.
