KIBSD welcomes interested persons to participate in a plan of service review meeting on how we will be delivering KELP services for the 2013-2014 school year. Triathlon Fundraiser

Healthy Futures Challenge!
For the first time ever, the Kodiak Island Borough School District is participating in the Healthy Futures Challenge. Congratulations to Main, East, North Star and Old Harbor who have taken on the challenge to "Play Every Day!". Students who are physically active for at least 30 minutes 3 times a week will receive individual incentives. The program goes on until April with three different chances to win.
East PTA Meeting
There will be an East PTA Meeting at 5:45pm Tuesday, Jan. 15th in the East Teachers' Lounge. All parents are welcome to attend.
KIBSD Board of Education Vacancy
The Kodiak Island Borough School District Board of Education is seeking citizens interested in serving on the KIBSD Board of Education through October, 2013. Letters of interest must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 and interviews will take place Friday, October 26, 2012. Appointment of the vacancy will take place at the November 19, 2012, Regular School Board Meeting. Citizens interested in serving on the Board should submit a letter of interest to:
Alaska Board of Education Meeting Moved
The Alaska State Board of Education & Early Development’s work session and business meeting scheduled for Friday, September 14, beginning at 8:30 am, has been moved to the Kodiak Island Borough School District’s Conference Room. For more information call the Superintendent's Office at 481-6200.
Town Schools Inservice - No School Monday
There will be no school for students on Monday, September 17 so that staff can participate in professional development workshops.
State Board of Education meets in Kodiak

First Student Open House
Bus Safety First is the theme for First Student's Open House on Saturday, August 18 from 11 am - 2 pm for preschool, kindergarteners and first time bus riders! There will be bus tours, hot dogs, popcorn and prizes! For more information call 486-3600.
Learning Center Schedule
The Learning Center will be closed July 2 through July 31, 2012. It will reopen on August 1.

KIBSD Board of Education was recently selected by the Alaska Arts Education Consortium to be the recipient of the "Champion of Arts" Award for their commitment to the arts and music education.

Port Lions School junior Raissa Boskofsky won state titles at the State Track and Field Championships recently held in Fairbanks. Congratulations!
Digital Lessons for Digital Learners Grand Prize Winner
AASB Consortium for Digital Learning(CDL), GCI and Alaska Communications sponsored the contest that turns Lesson Plans into Digital Books. East Elementary teacher John Malloy's entry of "Salmon Pacific Species Student and Teacher Guides" won Grand Prize of 10 iPad 2's and a Bretford syncing tray for his classroom. His unit will be posted as a course on our AASB CDL iTunes U site in the near future.
