There is NO SCHOOL for Kodiak Island Borough School District students on Monday, April 14, 2014.
There will be a Board of Education Work Session on Monday, April 14, 2014, beginning at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Special Meeting in the Central Services Conference Room. The meetings will be available via VTC at Rural Sites.

Seventh grade student Gray Harver successfully answered the most questions at this year's Alaska Geography Bee earning him the state title. This win secured him a spot in next month's National Competition held in Washington D.C.
We are proud of his accomplishments and wish him luck in D.C.!
FY15 budget development meetings began in January, and have presented specific budget elements and updates, with opportunities for community comments, at Budget Committee meetings and each Work Session and Regular Meeting during the ensuing months. The District is seeking input regarding the proposed calendar for Rural Schools for the 2014-2015 school year.
Additionally, The District is considering a change to the 2014/2015 school calendars. This would NOT change the start date or the end date of the school year. It would, however, change the inservice/professional development days that occur during the school year.
Important reminder for students in grades 3-12: SBA and HSGQE testing begins tomorrow. Please make sure your child has a good night’s sleep, has eaten breakfast, and arrives to school on time ready for the test.
Team Hollywood Celebrity Basketball travels the country bringing a love for the game and delivering a positive message for today’s youth. The community is invited to attend their free exhibition game on Saturday, March 29th at 4:00 pm in the Kodiak High School Gym.
The team will play mini games against KHS girls' and boys' teams, KIBSD staff, and members of the community. This event will be televised and streamed live courtesy of GCI.

Congratulations to our Lady Bears on winning the State Championship! The girls finished their incredible season undefeated with a 27-0 record.
Catch all the action as KHS boys and girls basketball teams compete in the State Championship games at the Sullivan Arena in Anchorage.
In February, the KIBSD Board of Education announced the Spirit of KIBSD 2014 Employee Recognition Program. This program will promote a greater appreciation of the District’s employees and publicly honor specific employees for outstanding teaching or service that directly or indirectly contributes to students as well as the communities of Kodiak Island.
Congratulations to Kodiak High School's boys and girls basketball teams on their victory at the Northern Lights Conference. Next up is the ASAA March Madness State Championship in Anchorage, March 15th - 22nd.

Tuesdays March 25th ‐ April 29th, 5:30‐8:00 p.m. at East Elementary.
Cost is $10 per adult for the whole 6 weeks.
Kodiak High School students place in the top five at the 14th Annual iDidaMovie Contest sponsored by Alaska Society for Technology in Education (ASTE).
Several students from Melissa Gandel’s Film and Literature classes created and entered documentaries in the contest. Three of the documentaries placed in the top five out of 25 films entered in the high school category:
The Ellusive Jellyfish team (Hannah Christian, Joong Hyun Lee, Annie Looman and Lars Bodnar) competed over a period of 3 days this past weekend in Seward, against 18 teams representing 15 high schools from around the State of Alaska. They received 1st place in the Research Project Category (combination of research paper and public presentation) as well as 6th place in the Quiz Bowl category of the competition.
The Board of Education will hold a FY15 Budget Committee Meeting on Monday, March 3, 2014, at 7:00 p.m., in the Central Services Conference Room. The meeting will be available via VTC at all Rural Sites. A presentation devoted to specific elements of the FY15 preliminary budget, with opportunities for community comments, will take place at Budget Committee Meetings and each Work Session and Regular Meeting from January through April 2014.
