BOE in final stages of new superintendent decision

It has been a busy week for the Kodiak Island Borough School District Board of Education and the three candidates for district superintendent.

Monday, March 6, was filled with touring the community and district schools, and the candidates — Larry LeDoux, Cyndy Mika and Glen Szymoniak — spent the afternoon and evening answering questions in employee and community forums. Roughly 55 community members attended the Superintendent Candidate Community Forum, asking questions about everything from each candidate’s experience and credentials to how they would facilitate district, teacher and parent collaboration to their opinions on standards-based grading and bolstering special education.

The BOE held final closed interviews with each candidate on Tuesday, and board members are slated to meet in executive session today, Wednesday, March 8, at 1 PM, to continue discussions and deliberations for KIBSD’s new superintendent. A final decision is expected soon.
