The Board of Education would like to invite you to a forum to meet and interact with the candidates for superintendent of schools. This forum will allow you to ask questions of the three candidates and provide feedback of your impressions to the Board.
The forum will take place on Monday, March 6 from 3:45 - 5 p.m. in the Gerald C. Wilson Choral Pod. Video conferencing will be set up to allow staff in the rural schools to also interact with the superintendent candidates. We hope to see you there!
The three candidates were chosen from six semi-finalists on February 16. The finalists are:
· Larry LeDoux – A life-long resident of Kodiak, LeDoux is a previous teacher, principal and former superintendent of KIBSD. He also served as Commissioner of Education for the state of Alaska under the Palin and Parnell administrations. He holds a Doctorate in Alaska Native Education & Digital Learning from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, and currently holds an Alaska superintendent certification.
· Cyndy Mika – Currently assistant superintendent of Instruction for Little Elm ISD in Little Elm, Texas, Mika has worked in administration for Little Elm ISD for the past 10 years and prior to that taught elementary and middle school for five years. She holds a Masters of Educational Administration from University of Texas at Tyler and a Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Dallas Baptist University. She also has a Texas superintendent credential.
· Glen Szymoniak – Currently superintendent for North Slope Borough School District, Szymoniak also was superintendent for seven years for McCall-Donnelly School District in McCall, ID. Additionally, he worked for the Kenai Borough School District for nearly 20 years in the capacity of teacher, principal and central office administrator. He has an Alaska superintendent certificate and holds a Masters in Education from the University of Alaska Anchorage.
