Beginning Tuesday, March 28, Kodiak Island Borough School District students in grades 3-10 will take the state of Alaska’s new summative assessment — the Performance Evaluation for Alaska’s Schools, or PEAKS.
Kodiak High School senior Alyssa Madrid cherishes her Alutiiq heritage. She has been a member of Kodiak Island’s Alutiiq Dancers since 2011 and is now training to become a lead drummer and song caller. She also has served as a youth ambassador for the Alaska Tobacco Control Alliance, and currently acts as the Cultural Programs Assistant for the Sun’aq Tribe of Kodiak.
“March Madness” will be in full effect this week in Kodiak as the 2017 Region III 4A Northern Lights Conference Basketball Tournament is played at Kodiak High School, March 9-11.
The Kodiak Tsunami Bowl team placed first in the presentation category, third in the research paper category, and seventh in the quiz bowl at the 20th Alaska Tsunami Bowl! The winning team this year was from Mat-Su Career & Tech High School in Wasilla.
