This survey will be administered to students in grades 3 – 12 at all district schools and to certified and support staff during the week(s) of February 20 through March 3.
Beginning Tuesday, March 28, Kodiak Island Borough School District students in grades 3-10 will take the state of Alaska’s new summative assessment — the Performance Evaluation for Alaska’s Schools, or PEAKS.
Eighteen students from Kodiak Island Borough School District town and rural schools competed Feb. 21 for the KIBSD District-wide Spelling Bee crown. East Elementary fifth-grader Ocean Rowe came out on top, but it was the battle for the runner-up spot where the drama really unfolded.
School counselors play a major role in the lives of Kodiak Island Borough School District Students. From teaching students how to respect one another and their teachers at the elementary school level to bullying prevention in middle school to college and career counseling in high school, KIBSD school counselors truly help guide KIBSD students through their ever-changing worlds.
Kindergarteners at East Elementary celebrated the beginning of the year of the Rooster last Friday with a Chinese New Year parade through the school. Students donned homemade signs — red plastic plates with paper roosters glued to them — as they wound their way through the halls of East.
Santa’s elves were very busy this month at East Elementary School. Teaming up with the Kodiak High School FFA, East faculty, staff and students held a holiday canned food drive. The class bringing in the largest amount of food in pounds wins a pizza party with the KHS FFA, and all food received will be donated to the Kodiak Island Food Bank.
Acknowledging that each individual is unique, East Elementary is committed to providing a respectful, safe, and caring school environment in which life-long learning and academic excellence are fostered. Achievement of this goal is met by providing students opportunities that promote the development of responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness and citizenship.
